Jep and Jessica Robertson of Duck Dynasty adopted a baby boy and announced it along with the premiere of the new season of their show yesterday!
The adoption broke news because their new baby boy, Gus, is a black child and in 2013 Jep’s father and previous of the show, Phil Robertson was quoted in a GQ interview saying racially insensitive things about black people and his experiences with them. In the interview he basically said that he had never seen blacks mistreated with his own eyes growing up in Louisiana. He insinuated that blacks were happier and ‘Godly’ before the entitlement and welfare. He grew up in the pre-civil rights era which was of course a tough time for any black man or woman to be in the south and critics took his comment and ran with it. Along with the racial comments made back in 2013, Robertson expressed his strong opinions about homosexuality which made things worse.
After being indefinitely suspended from the show and having some of their products pulled from shelves all around the country, it’s interesting to some that the family is now welcoming a little black baby. Well, according to Jep the family loves him and welcomes him with opens arms. He told Good Morning America that his father was misquoted and believes that we are all apart of one race.
