The Obama’s might be leaving the White House but they’ll still be calling Washington, D.C. their home…for now.
The news came straight from President Obama’s desk! During a lunch date he had in Milwaukee, he revealed that he plans to keep his family in DC until Sasha finishes her high school career.
“We’re going to have to stay a couple of years in D.C. probably so Sasha can finish,” he said. “Transferring someone in the middle of high school? Tough.”
Both Sasha and Malia attend Sidwell Friends, a private school in Washington. Malia is a senior and will be headed to college soon but Sasha still has some memories to finish living out there. She will be a sophomore when they depart from the White House in January.
He says they haven’t yet discussed plans post Sasha’s graduation but spoke passionately about Chicago.
“We haven’t figured that out yet,” he said. “Hawaii’s home for me but I spent almost 30 years in Chicago. It’s where I met Michelle, it’s where she grew up. It’s where our daughters were born,”
Obama will be the first president to stay in DC after leaving office since Woodrow Wilson! That was back in 1921.
So for al of you who reposted that meme about moving wherever the Obama’s move after he leaves office, we hear Washington, D.C. Isn’t a bad place to reside!
