17-Year-Old Ohio Student Graduates College Before Finishing High School

#Roommates, although 2020 is off to a sad and heavy start, there is still a lot of positivity going on in the world. The latest bit of good news involves a local Ohio student who just leveled up in a major way by graduating college before he even finishes high school.

@BlackNewsDotCom reports, 17-year-old Cameron Ray of Warrensville Heights, Ohio is responsible for an impressive bit of history for his hometown. Ray recently earned his Associate’s degree from Cuyahoga Community College—making him the youngest student from the city of Warrensville to ever earn a college degree before graduating high school. Ray, a high school junior, won’t be graduating high school until the spring of 2021, but in the meantime he will be attending Cleveland State University next semester to pursue his dream of becoming a film director.

If you’re wondering how Ray was able to achieve such an amazing accomplishment, well it’s all thanks to a special program. He was able to enroll college early through the Ohio College Credit Plus, a program that was implemented back in 2015 and allows students in grades 7 through 12 to earn college credits.

The program has benefited Ohio families tremendously, saving them more than $569 million in tuition and also making students more ready for careers.

Speaking to local media outlets about his history-making accomplishment, Ray had this to say:

“Everyone is usually pretty surprised when I tell them I’m only a junior in high school. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s the best things in life you’ll be fearful of. But you’ve got to push yourself and get acquainted.”

Now, this is the kind of news we want to hear about in 2020!

Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
