Do you guys recall the story we shared last week about the Baltimore school officers assaulting a teen student? Well news just surfaced that both the assaulting officer, Anthony Spence and his partner, Saverna Bias, who was seen on camera watching the incident take place, have been charged.
Reportedly they were charged early Wednesday before posting bond and being released.
“The team conducted interviews and gathered evidence related to this case,” Baltimore Police Department spokesperson T.J. Smith told NBC. “They consulted with the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office after they concluded their investigation. Charges were prepared and filed with the commissioner yesterday evening.” .
Spence was charged with second-degree assault, misconduct in office, and second-degree child abuse and Bis was charged with second-degree assault and misconduct in office.
“Right now, I’m the bad guy,” Spence said in a phone interview with AP Friday.
When we first reported, it was up for debate whether or not the assaulted student was in fact a trespasser as alleged or a student at the school. The family confirms he was indeed enrolled and a student at REACH.
Bias will continued as a paid officer however Spence has since bein charged been demoted to unpaid administrative leave.
