The story of legendary hip-hop group 2 Live Crew will soon make its way to the big screen via Lionsgate.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film entitled, “The Book of Luke,” will be an adaption of the memoir, “Book of Luke: My Fight for Truth, Justice and Liberty City.”
Craig Williams will pen the script, as the film will focus on how the group went from Miami to the 11th Circuit.
According to the synopsis, “the movie will focus on 2 Live Crew manager/hype-man Luther Campbell (Uncle Luke), who found himself on the other end of a copyright lawsuit related to 2 Live’s music, known for its sexually explicit content. The case made it all the way to the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of Campbell and 2 Live Crew, establishing music sampling as a form of parody, thus falling under free use.”
The group is known for songs such as “Hoochie Mama,” and “Shake A Lil Somethin,” among others.
Lionsgate will also release the upcoming hip-hop biopic, “All Eyez On Me,” later this week, which is based on the life of late rapper Tupac Shakur.
