It looks like tragedy has struck NBA superstar, Dwayne Wade and his family as it has been reported that his cousin was caught in a crossfire and killed this afternoon in Chicago.
According to ABC 7 Chicago, 32-year-old Nykea Aldridge was pushing a child in a stroller while she walked with another man from the Dulles School of Excellence in Chicago’s Parkway Gardens neighborhood around 3:30 p.m. Apparently two men walked up on the man she was walking with and began shooting, Aldridge, an innocent bystander, was struck in the head and arm. The child was unharmed but Nykea was pronounced dead after she was taken to Stroger Hospital.
Wade’s mother, Pastor Jolinda Wade, tried to console her crying sister as she spoke on the tragic incident.
“Just sat up on a panel yesterday, The Undefeated, talking about the violence that’s going on within our city of Chiacgo, never knowing that the next day we would be the ones that would be actually living and experiencing it,” Pastor Wade said.
As of now, two men have been taken in for questioning. Wade was recently traded from the Miami Heat to his hometown of Chicago to play for the Bulls.
“The endless gun violence in places like Chicago, Dallas, not to mention Orlando, it has to stop,” Wade said in his ESPY’s speech last month. “Enough is enough.”
