<p>Earlier this week, Apple Music dropped a commercial for Mary J. Blige&#8217;s new series with the company called &#8220;The 411&#8221; which takes after her first album &#8220;What&#8217;s The 411?&#8221;</p>
<p>In the middle of the show clip, Blige serenaded Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton with &#8216;American Skin.&#8217; The song, written by Bruce Springsteen, is about Guinean immigrant Amadou Diallo being gunned down by New York police in 1999.</p>
<p>Clearly, the lyrics to the song are still relevant which is clear of Blige&#8217;s song-choice, however viewers couldn&#8217;t help but feel awkward while watching the clip! During a press run for her upcoming show, the singer defends herself by explaining that by being a singer first, she just did what came naturally to her.</p>
<p>&#8220;I wanted to incorporate the song in the show because the lyrics resonated with me so deeply and so heavily because of all the shootings and police brutality and I never got a chance to say anything,&#8221; she began. &#8220;I&#8217;m a singer first &#8230;so that&#8217;s the only way I can express myself and &#8230;the only way I can get that reaction from (Hillary) is to sing it.&#8221;</p>
<p>Despite that moment seeming incredibly forced, Mary J. insists that everything happened organically. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t warm up &#8230; I just sang &#8230;It was organic and that&#8217;s how it went. And hopefully, I believe she felt it, I think she did.&#8221; Do you guys think Hillary felt it?</p>
<p>Mary J. Blige says that singing to any other guests mid-interview will &#8220;never happen again,&#8221; because that moment was just for Hillary. The episode will air September 30th! Will you be watching?</p>
