Hurricane Matthew ripped through Haiti on Tuesday and the death toll has continued to rise significantly every day. Currently, the storm has claimed about 1,000 lives and has left tens of thousands homeless before heading towards Northeast Florida.
President Obama still continues to warn of the potential threats that the storm could pose to citizens. “I just want to emphasize to everybody that this is still a really dangerous hurricane, that the potential for storm surge, loss of life and severe property damage exists” he told reporters after an emergency management briefing. Many residents have refused to evacuate their homes despite reports that this storm is the strongest to hit Northeast Florida in 100 years.
At least a million Floridians are without power right now and flooding is imminent. The eye of the storm is expected to hit Jacksonville tonight, so if you are living near this city and haven’t evacuated, please stay safe!
