A man was shot today afree he tried to attack soldiers at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The Louvre Museum, who houses many famous artworks including the Mona Lisa, was placed on lockdown after a man holding a machete tried to attack soldiers after yelling, “Allahu Akbar.”
BBC reports that soldiers tried to get the suspect in custody using non lethal force but when that didn’t help, one soldier fired at the man five times hitting him in the abdomen.
Tourists who were at the scene described it as chaotic.
“We saw death coming for us, with everything that’s happening at the moment. We were very, very scared,” one woman said.
President Francois Hollande, had since said that everything is under control but the “threat of terrorism is here to stay”.
Donald Trump also tweeted a statement in response to the failed attack:
