<p>Attorney General Jeff Sessions has decided to remove himself from participating in any investigations related to President #DonaldTrump&#8217;s campaign due to a possible conflict of interest. Apparently, he had met with Russian ambassador Sergey I. Kislyak twice last year and never mentioned it when he said he &#8220;knew of no contacts between Trump surrogates and Russians&#8221; during his confirmation hearings in January.</p>
<p>Sessions said that his meetings with Kislyak were allegedly coordinated after consulting senior officials at the Justice Department. However, given the speculation surrounding the Trump administration&#8217;s strange relationship with Russia, his behavior immediately became suspect and Democrats demanded that he resign.</p>
<p>Today, Sessions vehemently denied speaking to Kislyak, or any Russian officials for that matter, about the recent presidential campaign. He also said that he didn&#8217;t &#8220;intend to deceive the Senate&#8221; (read *lie to the senate) about having meetings with Russian officials.</p>
<p>&#8220;Last night when I read the revelations &#8230; and his decision to mislead Congress without those contacts, I felt a knot in the pit of my stomach,&#8221; Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters. &#8220;The information reported last night makes it clear, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that Attorney General Sessions cannot possibly lead an investigation &#8230; with these revelations, he may very well become the subject of it.&#8221; Why is this presidency becoming a real life episode of Scandal?!</p>
<p>Via the New York Times:</p>
<p>&#8220;Mr. Trump said that he &#8216;wasn’t aware&#8217; that Mr. Sessions had spoken to the ambassador, but that he believed the attorney general had testified truthfully to the Senate during his confirmation hearing.</p>
<p>&#8216;I think he probably did,&#8217; Mr. Trump told reporters. Asked whether Mr. Sessions should recuse himself in the Russia investigations, the president said, “I don’t think so.”&#8217;</p>
