One of the most memorable moments of reality tv history is when #TyraBanks hit former #ANTM contestant #TiffanyRichardson with the “WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU!” read. While there have been many references to this scene in pop culture and Black Twitter, Richardson sat with @Buzzfeed earlier this year to express how that moment impacted her.
Tiffany said that Tyra’s rant certainly made for good TV, but she wasn’t here for a particular theme that the viewers were thirsting for. “It was beautiful for TV. They love to see black girls struggling and somebody coming to save her … and that just didn’t work out that way this time.” Things have come full-circle now as Buzzfeed recently sat with Tyra and asked her whether or not she would do things differently today.
“Oh my god totally, I wouldn’t have done it,” Banks said. “Actually, maybe I wouldn’t have aired it.” The model later added, “It was such an emotional, visceral moment for me. I had so much love for this girl.” She said that the ANTM team invested “so much into her” and Tyra really took such a liking to Tiffany that she called her “my girl.”
It would be epic if Tyra invited Tiffany back to the upcoming season of ANTM! Now, that would be some good tv.
