So, you have to admit that everyone kind of side-eyed the Bajan beauty at the start of her career, because rumors were swirling that she was having an affair with Jay-Z! No one knew who she was, but that’s exactly why this rumor was started.
Rihanna’s former publicist, Jonathan Hay, admitted to the New York Daily news that he fabricated the story in order to get his client to celebrity status– stat! His public apology comes after his tea was clocked in Becoming Beyonce by J. Randy Taraborrelli:
“The pr stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break ‘Pon de Replay.’ It was reckless and I didn’t think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick. I didn’t think it would be this big story. But now, seeing Beyoncé on the cover of this book and knowing that people are profiting from speculations and opinions about her really turns my stomach.
I’m ashamed that I’m even talking about this. I just want to put this rumor to rest once and for all.”
We know you just wanted a check, but damn, Jonathan! Taraborrelli also alleges that the Rihanna rumors caused the couple to split for a year since Bey didn’t know what to make of the hearsay. Just think back to Ring The Alarm, okay?
He had supposedly apologized to the power couple already for putting strain on their marriage and for ultimately “slut shaming” Rihanna for all these years. Now, this child says that he’s about to be releasing some content on Tidal and hopes that since both Jay and Bey hold ownership, that they’ll show mercy.
