It’s just another day and another biopic being developed, and this time it’s looking like we’ll get to see the story of Cash Money Records being told on the big screen.
Cash Money co-owners Birdman and Slim were speakers at Brooklyn Law School earlier this week and revealed that they are currently in the early works of developing the films script. Birdman said, “Everything we’ve ever did – and I got 20 plus years selling records – nothing we ever did is worth more than that script. I’m excited about the script. That’s something I really want to do.”
Founded back in 1991, Cash Money has definitely left a huge imprint on the rap game. Giving us hits like “Back That Azz Up”, “Bling Bling”, “Still Fly” and many others, this biopic will definitely be a big deal.
Now we all know that biopics are the latest trend as of now, but Birdman definitely mentions the inspiration he received from the movie “Straight Outta Compton”.
He continued, “I think that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube…I think they are geniuses for what they have done and accomplished. For them to do that and to make it trend-setting, they opened doors for us. And I just think that what we have is way more special, because we’re in modern times.”
According to co-founder Slim the film will feature a lot of never before told stories of things that went on in the background of the company prior to their deal with Universal.
As of now there is no exact timetable, however seeing Cash Money’s story on the big screen will definitely be dope.
XXL was on sight to catch the audio of the two speaking on the biopic, check it out below: https://soundcloud.com/xxlmagazine/cash-money-biopic
