On Sunday, Janet Jackson hit the stage at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards to receive the Icon Award.
The Jackson family was in the audience for Janet’s special night. However, many noticed that her niece Paris Jackson was not present with the rest of the family.
On Monday, Paris took to social media to address why she wasn’t in attendance and asked everyone to respect her relationship with her family members.
Paris said, “Dear social media followers, friends, stalkers, lovers and haters, and fellow moonwalkers: Please do not tell me/demand/try to control how I handle my relationship with the people in my life, specifically my family.”
“As amazing and as sh*tty as things can be, it is no one’s business but ours. I understand that some of you feel some sort of connection or need to be apart of our lives considering you watched us grow up. However, I am handling my situation exactly how my father did. And I am happy keeping it that way. I will always have love and respect for my family. ALWAYS.”
She continued to say that every family has their ups and downs and ended her statement by saying; “Also not to mention no one from my mgmt. (management) reached out to me about attending Billboards or about the award, and no one from my family did neither. I had absolutely no idea until ya’ll spammed me with hatred.”
This is not the first time that Paris has shared that there has been a shift in her relationship with some of her family members.
