Michigan To Enforce Work Requirements For Select Food Stamp Recipients

The state of Michigan is tired of giving out food stamps to individuals who are able to work, and is about to switch things up BIG TIME. If residents want to keep their benefits, then they’re going to have to get up off their behind and go out there and get a J-O-B.

According to Fox News, the state means business! “Each individual between the ages of 18 and 49 and considered “able-bodied” has three months to find a job before losing his or her benefits. Those affected will need to go to job training, volunteer or work a median of 20 hours per week each month in order to obtain the benefits.”

The policy will go into effect immediately for individuals who were recently accepted into the program.

The program was instituted by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, but don’t freak out just yet.

If you are under the age of 18, pregnant, have a physical or mental inability then you can count your blessings today because this policy doesn’t apply to you.

Fox’s local affiliate Fox 2 reported that the policy was already put in place but was never enforced because of “high unemployment rates and a weakened economy. The new rules initially were instituted in 14 counties but went state-wide on Monday.”

They plan on enacting this by evaluating everyone who’s on benefits already the next time they reapply. Those approved have three months to secure a job or they can kiss their benefits goodbye!

This news may seem a little harsh but there is some good behind it. State officials want people to get out and learn the necessary skills so they can get out of the system and be able to support themselves. Sometimes all people need is a little tough love to get them on their feet.
