Tonight is the premiere of Lifetime’s three-part documentary series “Surviving R. Kelly,” and it looks like R. Kelly’s team is threatening to sue if the network actually goes through with airing the project.
According to a legal letter obtained by TMZ, R. Kelly’s lawyer Brain Nix says that the documentary is packed with lies. Nix threatens to file a federal lawsuit on Thursday, the same day that the documentary premieres, if it airs on the network.
As we previously reported, the documentary highlights the multiple women that have accused R. Kelly of sexual, mental and physical abuse. The project will also feature, for the first time, people from R. Kelly’s inner circle coming forward about the allegations.
Kelly is saying that subjects in the documentary are making false allegations just to become famous. He reportedly also says that he has two audio recordings, that are five minutes in duration, that show Lifetime knew “some of the girls are lying, but that the budget was too high to turn back now.”
