#Roommates, Kanye West’s musical winning streak continues, as he is officially closing out 2019 with another musical success. His Sunday Service Choir released its debut album on Christmas Day—and it hit the charts in a big way, just missing the number one spot.
After tying his own solo Billboard chart record earlier this year with his album “Jesus Is King” that debuted at number one, Kanye West has proved his musical touch is pure magic—and his incredibly talented Sunday Service Choir is reaping the benefits. @Billboard reports that the Sunday Service Choir’s first album “Jesus Is Born” has officially debuted at the number two spot on the Gospel Albums chart. The album missed the number one spot because Kanye’s “Jesus Is King” still remains at number one after nine weeks.
According to official industry tracking estimates of its sales, Kanye’s second spiritually-based project, “Jesus Is Born,” which is credited to his Sunday Service Choir, entered the Top Gospel Albums chart with 6,000 equivalent album units earned (3,000 in album sales) in the week ending December 26th. The Sunday Service Choir, the musical collective that voices his incredibly popular Sunday Service live shows, is the central focus and serves up some beautiful renditions of R&B classics given an updated, spiritual twist—with Ye at the helm as executive producer.
Among the 19 songs on “Jesus Is Born” some of the standouts include the spiritual reworkings of classics, such as “Rain” and “Weak” by SWV, “Back To Life” by Soul II Soul and Kanye’s own “Father Stretch My Hands.”
Kanye’s “Jesus Is King” made history when it was released a few months ago, debuting at number one on the Top Gospel Albums, Top Christian Albums, Billboard 200, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums. It was also the first album in history to top all those charts at once. Let’s see if the Sunday Service Choir can match their leader and make some history of their own.
