Welp, the end of an era has officially come, as it was just confirmed that after 21 years the iconic iPod will be discontinued forever. When it was initially released back in 2001, the iPod changed the music industry forever—but sadly its reign is now over for good.

@CNN reports, in an official statement released earlier today, Apple confirmed that the production of the last existing iPod (the current Touch) would be permanently discontinued—while noting that if customers want to hold on to a symbol of the past, they can purchase the last  model “while supplies last.”

Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Greg Joswiak, spoke about how the product revolutionized the music industry, “Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry—it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared.”

Joswiak continued, adding that “Today, the spirit of iPod lives on,” and reassured customers that they can still listen to their music libraries on a collection of other Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

The iPod was first introduced back in 2001 by late Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs, by 2007 over 100 million iPod models had been sold, thanks to the product’s signature scroll wheel and ability to store “up to 1,000 CD-quality songs.” Subsequent models were able to hold even more music with additional capabilities such as Wi-Fi, photo storage and email syncing.
