Lil Nas X Responds To BET’s Statement About Why He Wasn’t Nominated—“Just Buzz Words”

Whew! The last few days have been full of drama between Lil Nas X and BET, unsurprisingly things are still heated based on a post-and-delete message from him. Taking to Twitter, Lil Nas X continued to fuel his beef with BET by tweeting about their response to his criticisms regarding not being nominated for an award this year—and let’s just say that he’s not impressed.

Following BET publicly responding to Lil Nas X continuing to call out the network for failing to nominate him for a 2022 BET award, Nas posted his thoughts in the form of a tweet. Although he quickly deleted it, fans snatched it up and it started to circulate. “These are literally just buzz words placed together,” he wrote in response.

Before that, BET release an official statement about why Lil Nas X was not nominated at this year’s awards show:

“We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a Best New Artist BET Award in 2020, and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice: he performed “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus at “BET Awards” 2019 and his “BET Awards” 2021 performance was a highlight of our show. No one cheered louder that night than BET.”

The statement continued, adding “Unfortunately, this year, he was not nominated by BET’s Voting Academy, which is comprised of an esteemed group of nearly 500 entertainment professionals in the fields of music, television, film, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, influencers, and creative arts. No one from BET serves as a member of the Voting Academy. At BET, we are passionate advocates for the wonderful diversity that exists within our community. We are committed to using all of our platforms to provide visibility and inclusion for all of the many intersections of the Black community.”

You can check out the 2022 BET Awards on June 26th at 8PM and hosted by Taraji P. Henson.
