It’s no secret that California living requires a nice bag, and according to a new survey, that bag needs to contain six figures in order to be “happy.”

Based on a Purdue University and GoBankingRates.com survey, $149,310 is needed to “secure happiness.

According to the report, the cost of living is “notoriously high.”

California’s notoriously high cost of living is on display here, with just over $149,000 a year being needed to secure happiness. While California’s staggering 16.3% unemployment rate at the height of the pandemic has come down, 4.9% is still among the highest in the nation.

While this may not come as a surprise, this is a vast difference compared to living in Texas. While the median income to be happy is $96, 705, one can find “a state of emotional well-being for $55,260 and a peace of mind with a low violent crime rate.” Not to mention, the cost of living in Texas is reportedly 10% below the national average.

It’s also stated that “satiation occurs at $95,000 for life evaluation and $60,000 to $75,000 for emotional well-being,” according to the journal.

As previously reported, the Economist Intelligence Unit published the Worldwide Cost of Living index, and the two U.S. cities made the top 10. Listed as number six and number nine, New York City and Los Angeles are said to be among the 200 cities that cost a pretty penny to live in around the world in 2021.

In 2021, it was reported that Miami surpassed Los Angeles as the second most expensive place to live within the United States.

Based on the October 2021 Housing Affordability Index report by RealtyHo, the housing market in Miami has increased tremendously. So much so that it is now the second least affordable city to live within the United States, @local10news reports.

Also, in September of 2021, Miami was ranked number three behind Los Angeles, but it appears that has changed. According to the report, the median income in Miami is $39,049, while medians for homes are $549,000.
