<p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">The end of an era is officially upon us, as <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/airbnb-cracks-down-with-new-rules-all-open-invite-parties-banned-permanently/">Airbnb</a> has announced permanent changes to what made it a household name. Two years after implementing a temporary ban, Airbnb just confirmed that a permanent ban is now in place for “disruptive parties and events”—effectively putting an end to the global phenomenon of “party houses.”</p>
<p>If you thought that Airbnb would reverse its temporary ban on large-scale parties, we have some very bad news for you. @CNBC reports, earlier today Airbnb <u><a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/28/airbnb-makes-its-party-ban-permanent.html?utm_term=Autofeed&;utm_medium=Social&;utm_content=Main&;utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1656423718">officially confirmed</a></u> its permanent global ban on parties, specifically “disruptive parties and events,” that includes open-invite gatherings and “party houses” where customers throw a large event for one night only. Additionally, if you’re thinking of violating the new rules, Airbnb said those who attempt to do so will face consequences that include account suspension and/or complete removal from the platform. You may recall that just last year, over 6,600 guests were suspended from the platform for violation of its party ban.</p>
<p>While many may assume that by implementing a permanent party house ban the company would be hurting its business, that is actually the opposite. Via a recent company blog post, Airbnb said that since the party ban policy temporarily began back in August 2020, there has been a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports. “The temporary ban has proved effective, and today we are officially codifying the ban as our policy,” the post read.</p>
<p>However, it should be noted that due to the structure of the Airbnb platform, the company can’t always stop parties from taking place, as guests have the ability to check-in to remote properties while the owner is away and invite as many people as they want.</p>
<p>The temporary ban from Airbnb was initially created after five people were killed in a shooting at one of its property locations in 2019.</p>
