Back in December Ice Cube announced his “Big 3” basketball league, which will consist of former NBA players hitting the court again to play a game of 3 on 3 throughout the country.
Now the league has gained a prominent player for their debut season.
According to Yahoo Sports, Allen Iverson has joined the league as one of the eight players to pull double duty as a player-coach. Therefore, fans will get to see him play the sport again, but they will also get a taste of his coaching skills.
A press conference will be held in New York City on Wednesday, where he will talk more about his new role.
Iverson last played in the NBA during the 2009-2010 season, after spending a total of 14 seasons in the NBA. In 2016 he was also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Ice Cube explained his idea behind the development of this new league, he said, “I thought of this concept as a fan who got sick of seeing his heroes retire and not play anymore. A lot of these guys can still play once they retire–just not the back-to-backs or four games in five nights.”
The Big 3 League is expected to launch this summer after the 2016-2017 NBA season wraps up.
