Cardi B’s famous “Okurrrr” is the only appropriate reaction to the news of the rapper’s next hosting gig. Apparently, the ‘Bodak Yellow’ superstar will touch the stage at the 2021 American Music Awards as their host.

“We are immensely excited to have the dynamic Cardi B bring her infectious energy to the American Music Awards as a first-time host,” Executive Producer Jesse Collins said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Announcement

The show announced their choice early morning via a short, compilation video of Cardi moments. The five-time AMAs winner is not only hosting. She also secured nominations for three awards this year. According to Billboard, she earned spots in the “Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist” and “Favorite Music Video” and “Favorite Hip-Hop Song” for her single ‘Up.’

Cardi’s Past With The AMAs

So, Cardi is no stranger to accepting awards or performing at the AMAs. She also took the stage in 2018 alongside J Balvin and Bad Bunny to perform their hit song ‘I Like It.’ Last year, she broke another record (for the fifty-eleventh time) by becoming the first female rapper to earn the “Favorite Hip-Hop Song” twice — a category reportedly added in 2016.

“When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited,“ Cardi B said in a statement. “I’m ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage! Thank you to Jesse Collins, ABC and MRC for making this happen.”

Fans welcomed the announcement with open arms as it quickly went viral on Twitter. By late Tuesday evening, Cardi’s repost of the announcement video racked up more than two million views.

This year’s AMAs will air live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 21. Fans can catch Cardi hosting by tuning into ABC the day of or watching it on Hulu the next day. The show is “the world’s largest fan-voted awards show” per Billboard.
