Angelina Jolie opened up with a touching and emotional op-Ed to the NY Times about how she took drastic measures to mininize her risks of getting cancer. She underwent surgery last week removing her ovaries and Fallopian tubes. Jolie, who has three adopted children and three biological children, no longer has the ability to have children.
The 39-year-old award winning actress talked about how she has an 87% chance of developing breast cancer and a 50% chance of ovarian cancer, because she carries the BRCA1 gene mutation.
Two years ago, she took steps to diminish her breast cancer by getting a double mastectomy. Recently she was faced with a possibility of cancer when medical tests revealed the possibility of an early stage of ovarian cancer. Angelina underwent the procedure last week, and doctors found a small benign tumor on one ovary but no signs of cancer in her tissues.
“I feel feminine, and grounded in the choices I am making for myself and my family. l know my children will never have to say, ‘Mom died of ovarian cancer'”, said Jolie.
Jolie is also experiencing menopause now due to the surgery. Such a brave decision to make, we keep her in prayers!
