Late Tuesday, the unfortunate news broke that fashion icon Andr Leon Talley passed away at the age of 73. Many people have sent their condolences as they reflected on his contributions to the fashion world. Now Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour is speaking out about Andr’s passing.
Early Wednesday, Anna, who Andr worked alongside for many years broke her silence and spoke out in the wake of his passing. In a statement, which was published on Vogue, Anna said, “The loss of Andr is felt by so many of us today: the designers he enthusiastically cheered on every season, and who loved him for it; the generations he inspired to work in the industry, seeing a figure who broke boundaries while never forgetting where he started from; those who knew fashion, andVogue, simply because of him.”
She continued, “Not forgetting, the multitude of colleagues over the years who were consistently buoyed by every new discovery of Andrs, which he would discuss loudly, and volublyno one could make people more excited about the most seemingly insignificant fashion details than him. Even his stream of colorful faxes and emails were a highly anticipated event, something we all looked forward to.”
Anna briefly acknowledged the hardships she and Andr experienced in their relationship, and continued, “Yet its the loss of Andr as my colleague and friend that I think of now; its immeasurable. He was magnificent and erudite and wickedly funnymercurial, too. Like many decades-long relationships, there were complicated moments, but all I want to remember today, all I care about, is the brilliant and compassionate man who was a generous and loving friend to me and to my family for many, many years, and who we will all miss so much.”
Prior to her statement, many people took to Twitter to express their disappointment of Vogue’s delayed acknowledgment of Andr’s passing after it was announced Tuesday evening.
As previously reported, on Tuesday it was announced that Andre passed away at a hospital in White Plains, NY.
