Ari Lennox Responds After Some People Criticize Her For Expressing Her Disappointment In Not Winning A Soul Train Award

Roommates we are sending our support to Ari Lennox during this time. The songstress took to Twitter on Tuesday to respond to critics after she expressed her disappointment of not winning an award during Sunday’s Soul Train Awards.

She originally expressed her disappointment on Monday in a series of tweets where she said, “Shea Butter Baby will always be special. I made a soul album for black people. I made my album for black people. But I don’t understand. At all actually. But cool. I want this sh*t way more than it wants me. I’m learning I have to stop caring. Yea I’m hurt. I’m not built for these things.”

She returned to Twitter to address those who criticized her for expressing her disappointment and said, “You know what I realized? People who genuinely f*ck with me understand my frustration. People who are self-hating haters and clearly have never given my music a chance got the biggest problem with me always.”

She continued, “No one will have to worry about me complaining after this current complaint. Lol, what I will not do is ever be this depressed again.”

As we previously reported, Ari was nominated for Best R&B/ Soul Female Artist, but that award went to H.E.R. She was also nominated for Album/ Mixtape of the Year, but that award went to Lizzo, and she was nominated for Best Collaboration with J. Cole, however that award went to Chris Brown and Drake for “No Guidance.”

Nonetheless, she wants to make it clear that she doesn’t feel entitled to win, it’s just that as someone who made a soul album, and someone who is a fan of Soul Train’s history, she expected a different outcome.

She responded to one critic and said, “Dear fake fans please unfollow. I’m not entitled. I’m hurt. There’s deeper things I would love to say but I just can’t. It’s not entitlement. It’s blatant disrespect.”

Check out some more of her tweets below:

Roommates, what are your thoughts?
