A van rammed into a crowd of people in Barcelona, causing one confirmed death and many injuries according to the Catalan police.
CNN reports, that the incident took place Thursday afternoon in the popular tourist area of Las Ramblas, which has now been sealed off. Authorities have identified the incident as a terror attack.
The Catalonian has confirmed at least one death, 7 people hospitalized in serious condition, and 17 others injured in the incident.
According to the state-run broadcaster TVE24, a witness said that the van had been going about 50 mph, and that “there is no doubt it was intentional.”
Police have called the incident a “massive trampling,” and continue to search for the perpetrator. They are asking everyone to avoid the area at this time, and have requested the closure of the metro and train stations.
