<p>#Roommates, as the Trump administration winds down its last few weeks to make way for Joe Biden to officially be sworn in as the 46<sup>th</sup> President of the United States, many were shocked to learn that current Attorney General <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/u-s-attorney-general-william-barr-says-peaceful-protests-are-being-hijacked-by-far-left-extremist-groups-with-own-agenda/">William Barr</a> has unexpectedly resigned. Following reported increasing tension with Trump regarding his refusal to accept the 2020 election results, Barr stepped down from his position effective on December 23<sup>rd</sup>.</p>
<p>@NPR reports, William Barr <a href="https://www.npr.org/2020/12/14/811276917/william-barr-to-steps-down-as-attorney-general?utm_source=twitter.com&;utm_campaign=npr&;utm_medium=social&;utm_term=nprnews">confirmed his resignation</a> in a letter to Trump, stating that he was proud to have played a role in the Trump administration. Earlier this month, widespread reports chronicled the rising tension between Barr and Trump after Barr directly contradicted Trump&#8217;s baseless claims that Democrats stole the election. However, before the election, Barr stood in defense of Trump and repeated his unsubstantiated claims that mail-in voting was ripe for fraud.</p>
<p>Despite their recent differences, Trump announced Barr’s resignation on Twitter, writing that he and Barr had a “very nice meeting” at the White House and that their “relationship has been a very good one.” Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen will become acting attorney general on December 23<sup>rd</sup> when William Barr officially leaves his position.</p>
<p>In less than two years on the job, Barr emerged as perhaps the most divisive attorney general in recent memory for a series of controversial actions, including his handling of special counsel Robert Mueller&#8217;s report on the Russia investigation and his repeated false claims about the integrity of mail-in voting.</p>
<p>Additionally, his legacy will forever be stamped by his role leading the forceful removal of peaceful protesters from Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C. this summer to clear the way for Trump’s photo-op in front of a nearby church.</p>
