If you’re a 90’s kid like me, you know how lit the Powerpuff Girls were back in the day! Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will no longer be a thing of the past, thanks to director Ava DuVernay. According to Deadline, the CW has been given Ava the green light to work on a pilot to reboot the show based on the original Cartoon Network animated series, but it will be a little different from how viewers saw it last. The reboot will be a live-action show!
The series will follow the trio who used to be child superheroes and who are now adults who resent having lost their childhood due to fighting crime. That’s not all that Ava will be working on. She also is working on a pilot for the DC Comics superhero “Naomi.” The superhero drama is based on the book series that debuted in 2019, co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and illustrated by breakout artist Jamal Campbell. Ava and Jill Blankenship are attached to write and executive produce the show.
The show will follow Naomi’s journey from her small Northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.
Lastly, the network has also ordered a reboot of the classic sci-fi drama “The 4400” straight-to-series. There had been some question circulating as to whether The CW would go completely straight-to-series for the next broadcast season due to the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately CW chairman Mark Pedowitz has decided to stick with the pilot process. Last month he told Deadline, “I believe in pilots, I believe you see things in pilots.”
As of right now, there is no official release date for the pilots. Roommates, are ya’ll excited?!
