<p>Issa celebration! The 2019 Emmy nominations were just announced and for all of you who were forever changed after watching Ava DuVernay’s masterpiece <em>When They See Us</em>, you’ll be happy to know that the Netflix limited series received a lot of Emmy love this year.</p>
<p><em>When They See Us</em> which chronicles the heartbreaking case of the exonerated Central Park Five was not only a hit with fans, <a href="https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/emmys-2019-nominations-complete-list-1203268665/">but also Emmy voters</a>. As reported by @Variety, it scored major nominations in several categories, including Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie (Jharrel Jerome) and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Niecy Nash, Aunjanue Ellis.) In addition, Asante Blackk, Michael K. Williams and Marsha Stephanie Blake received nominations for their performances in <em>When They See Us</em> in the supporting categories.</p>
<p>However, the black excellence didn’t stop there, as the ground-breaking FX series <em>Pose</em> notched its first Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Billy Porter) and Outstanding Drama Series categories. ABC’s long-running hit <em>Blackish</em> scored a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Anthony Anderson,) as did Showtime’s <em>Black Monday</em> for series star Don Cheadle.</p>
<p>Emmy favorite <em>This Is Us </em>returned to familiar territory with nominations in the categories of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Sterling K. Brown) and Outstanding Drama Series. Viola Davis is also wrapping up her series <em>How To Get Away With Murder</em> with a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.</p>
<p>This year’s first-time nominees include <em>When They See Us </em>stars Jharrel Jerome, Asante Blackk and Aunjanue Ellis, and also Billy Porter of <em>Pose</em>.</p>
<p>The 71<sup>st</sup> annual Emmy Awards will air Sunday, September 22<sup>nd</sup> at 8PM on FOX.</p>
