Babyface and Teddy Riley officially increased their streams for 90s R&B music with their most epic live IG battle, hosted by
Verzuz.
According to @billboard, their 49 combined songs saw a dramatic increase with online streams.
From initial reports to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the 49 titles collectively registered 3 million on-demand audio streams in the U.S. on April 21, the day following the late-night session, compared with a cumulative 1.4 million haul on the 20th, a day-over-day surge of 115%. The #verzuz impact becomes even more obvious when measuring the post-battle results to more preceding days: On April 16 and 17, the tracks pulled 1.3 million on-demand audio streams, while the number rose to 1.5 million each day for April 18 and 19.
Also according to Billboard, Tevin Campbells Can We Talk saw the biggest increase in streams with 232,000 on-demand audio streams, up from 110,000 the day prior (up 110%).
Other songs that saw an increase were Blackstreets No Diggity, featuring Dr. Dre (173,000), SWVs Right Here accumulated 128,000, and Boyz II Mens Ill Make Love to You with 101,000 streams, in addition to End of the Road earned 100,000.
Toni Braxtons Love Shoulda Brought You Home, Guy’s Piece of My Love, “I Like The Way/The Kissing Game, and Whip Appeal, just to name a few.
In addition to increased streams, the April 20th battle caused technical issues for Instagram. Some people werent able to watch the battle from their phones.
The official Instagram account had to remind us that live is available on desktop, while they were working out the kinks.
Roomies, this was indeed an experience! This battle of R&B gave us a good bit of nostalgia.
