Bath & Body Works To Close 50 Stores Following Coronavirus Pandemic

Sad news, #Roommates. You may have to search elsewhere for your favorite candles, lotions and sprays because popular retailer Bath & Body Works has just announced several store closures. Following the devastating financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Bath & Body Works is reportedly set to close 50 stores after first-quarter projections are considerably lower than expected.

The coronavirus has caused a financial hardship that many may never fully recover from, especially retailers that have taken the hardest hit. @CNN reports that Bath & Body Works is the latest major retailer to be forced to close stores after sales have nose-dived due to the pandemic. It’s estimated that 50 stores (out of 1,700) are set to be closed within the coming months—although it should be noted that the majority of the store closures will be at locations inside shopping malls, which have remain closed since the outbreak hit the U.S.

While Bath & Body Works has continued to operate sales on its website, only a few select locations are currently open. However, recent reports confirm that “despite the store closures, Bath & Body Works had a strong quarter. Its online sales grew 85% over last year. It expects its sanitizer products to grow into a $300 million business this year—up from $100 million last year.”

Likely a response to the company’s financial struggles, its currently offering a generous amount of online deals for customers. Some of the discounted sales include, 2-for-1 single-wick candles and six hand soaps for under $30. Additionally, as more states reopen their economies, the company will likely resume store-front sales allowing customers to shop inside once again.
