<p>#Roommates, if you’re a fan of the hit CW series “<a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/black-lightning-spinoff-painkiller-starring-jordan-calloway-set-as-a-backdoor-pilot/">Black Lightning</a>,” you definitely won’t be happy with the latest news regarding the show. It has just been announced that the show’s upcoming fourth season will officially be its last—the CW recently confirmed the news after greenlighting a spin-off series earlier this month.</p>
<p>@Deadline reports, after three successful and critically-acclaimed seasons, the upcoming fourth season of the CW’s “Black Lightning” will officially be the <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/11/black-lightning-end-fourth-season-on-the-cw-1234619591/">end of the road</a>. The all-black superhero drama will air its fourth and last season in early 2021. The surprising announcement comes on the heels of the CW’s recent announcement that a planned spin-off of “Black Lightning,” titled “Painkiller,” is in the works for a fall 2021 premiere.</p>
<p>“Black Lightning” executive producer/showrunner Salim Akil, spoke about the show ending:</p>
<p><em>“When we first started the</em><em> ‘Black Lightning’</em><em> journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black women would be a unique addition to the superhero genre. The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined: Black people want to see themselves in all their complexities.</em></p>
<p><em>Thank you to the phenomenal cast, writers and crew without whom none of this would’ve been possible. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve been able to do and the moments we’ve been able to create in bringing DC’s first African-American family of super heroes to life for the culture. While Season Four may be the end of one journey, I’m extremely excited to usher in a new chapter and continued collaboration with The CW as we tell the story of ‘Painkiller.’”</em></p>
<p>“Black Lightning” originally aired on FOX before moving to the CW and broke ground as the first DC superhero series with a Black lead, with Cress Williams in the title role.</p>
