Roommates, we always knew flying cars would become a reality, but it looks like they may come even earlier than we expected. Boeing and Porsche have officially come together to create the first flying electric car.

According to CNN, the U.S. aircraft maker and German sports car creator announced Thursday they are teaming up to bring The Jetson’s form of travel to life. As of now, the companies have put together a prototype, which can take off, hover, and land.

In the announcement, the companies say they want to “explore the premium urban air mobility makes and the extension of urban traffic into airspace through a fully electric vertical takeoff and

landing vehicle.” In non-scientific terms, the companies are developing an electric vehicle that can fly.

Although the announcement did not include any details about the amount of money or resources the two companies plan to invest, one can only imagine the numbers are somewhere in the trillions. They also have not specified a price range for these vehicles, or an anticipated date of possible release.

Porsche is under the umbrella of the world’s largest automaker, Volkswagen. The parent company has announced a major push into the development of electric vehicles, with the gal of building 22 millions electric cars across its brands over the next 10 years.

“We are combining the strengths of two leading global companies to address a potential key market segment of the future,” says Detlev von Platen, a member of the Porsche board in charge of sales and marketing. “In the longer term, this could mean moving into the third dimension of travel.”

A timeline for a possible production date of the vehicles has not been revealed, but a report conducted by Porsche Consulting found that this type of transportation is expected to “pick up speed” as soon as 2025.
