Kenneth Walker III, the boyfriend of Breonna Taylor, has reached a $2 million settlement with the city of Louisville. According to CNN, the settlement resolves two lawsuits Walker filed in response to “the unlawful police raid that led to Ms. Taylor’s death.”

According to the outlet, Walker filed the first lawsuit in September 2020. It was a state lawsuit. In March 2021, Walker filed a federal civil rights lawsuit. Both lawsuits named the defendants as the Louisville Metro Government. And also named the individual police officers involved in obtaining a “materially false” search warrant for Taylor’s home.
Walker’s Attorney Shares His Thoughts About The Settlement
Steve Romines, one of Walker’s attorneys, shared his thoughts about the settlement in a news release.
While this tragedy will haunt Kenny for the rest of his life, he is pleased that this chapter of his life is completed. He will live with the effects of being put in harm’s way due to a falsified warrant, to being a victim of a hailstorm of gunfire and to suffering the unimaginable and horrific death of Breonna Taylor.
According to CNN, the release does not disclose if the defendants admitted to any wrongdoing.
The City Of Louisville Has A Prior Settlement With The Taylor Family
Six months after Taylor was tragically killed, the City of Louisville paid a $12 million settlement to the Taylor family. This settlement resolved a wrongful death lawsuit. According to CNN, this settlement also did not include an admission of wrongdoing.
The settlement, however, does include a series of police reforms in the city,” which include all search warrants being approved by a senior officer, as reported by the BBC.
The Fatal Shooting Of 26-Year-Old Breonna Taylor
Breonna Taylor was in her apartment when police unexpectedly burst into the unit. Walker was present and fired a shot at one of the officers with a pistol he legally owned. According to the BBC, officers fired 32 shots — six of which struck Taylor, killing her.
Walker was charged with attempted murder. But explained that he fired at the officers because he thought the apartment was being broken into. Walker’s charges were dismissed by a judge in March 2021.
As The Shade Room previously reported, officer Kelly Hanna Goodlett pled guilty to falsifying evidence that led to the search of Taylor’s home. Three other officers involved in the raid are also facing charges.
