Brett Hankison Officially Enters Not Guilty Plea For Wanton Endangerment Charge In The Breonna Taylor Case

#Roommates, a week after the heartbreaking indictment decision in the Breonna Taylor case, Brett Hankison, the sole officer charged in the case, has just entered his plea. During a recent virtual court appearance for his charge of wanton endangerment, Brett Hankison has officially pled not guilty.

@TMZ_TV reports, former Lousiville, Kentucky police officer Brett Hankison appeared via audio conference call to formally enter a not guilty plea during his arraignment for the charge of  wanton endangerment. You’ll recall that Hankison was indicted by a grand jury for shooting into a neighbor’s apartment—not for the shooting death of Breonna Taylor.

Brett Hankison was formally indicted on three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree. Shortly after, he was booked and promptly released from the Shelby County Detention Center after posting a $15,000 bail. A wanton endangerment charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted. Additionally, as part of his bond conditions, Hankison must surrender his weapons. His attorney previously argued that he be allowed to keep them for self-defense, but a judge denied the request.

As we previously reported, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron stated in a press conference last week following the indictment, that Hankison fired 10 rounds from outside, which went everywhere, including into the neighboring unit apartment of where Breonna Taylor lived, which is how the wanton endangerment charge came about.

Many across the country were devastated at the outcome of the indictment, including Breonna Taylor’s family attorney Benjamin Crump, who called the wanton endangerment charges “outrageous and offensive.”
