Last year the passing of Chadwick Boseman left many people around the world heartbroken. With his passing, many people not only looked at it as an end to an amazing acting career but also the end of an era when it came to his role as Black Panther. In the end, Marvel executives made the decision not to recast the role of Black Panther, as they moved on with the film’s sequel. However, recently fans of the franchise have been calling for the role to be recast. Even starting up the hashtag, #RecastTChalla.

TMZ says they spoke with Chadwick’s brother Derrick Boseman, and he says that he thinks the Black Panther role should live on, even if that means recasting the role. He also says that Chadwick would want the role of T’Challa to live on as well.

According to the site, Derrick reportedly said that Chadwick knew the power and influence of the role T’Challa was bigger than just one person. Derrick spoke on the positivity and the inspiration that the Black Panther role brought to the youth and the African American community. With Marvel’s decision to move forward without a new Black Panther, following Chadwick’s passing, Derrick feels like Black children are being deprived of a role model.

Derrick added that Chadwick did not express a recast to him prior to his passing, but said that he’s sure his brother would want the character to go on.

Last month, there were reports that production was shut down for the sequel after, Letitia Wright, who plays T’Challa’s sister Shuri, suffered an injury while on set. However, things will resume at the top of the year.Ā Nonetheless, while rumors swarmed about Letitia’s return, fans called for the Black Panther role to be recast.

According to People, last month, Marvel VP of Development, Nate Moore spoke about the decision to not recast Chadwick’s role while on the “Ringer Verse Podcast,” and said, “I’m being quite honest. You will not see T’Challa in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) 616 universe. We couldn’t do it.”

He added, “When Chad passed, it was a real conversation we had with Coogler [director Ryan Coogler] about, ‘What do we do?’ And it was a fast conversation. It wasn’t weeks, it was minutes of we had to figure out how to move that franchise on without that character. Because I think we all feel so much of T’Challa in the MCU on the screen… is tied to Chadwick’s performance.”

MCU VP of Development Nate Moore puts to rest any discussion about recasting the character of T’challa as Black Panther. Says he talked with Ryan Coogler about it, and ā€œwe just couldn’t do itā€ more on @RingerVerse. T’challa is gone guys you agree or no? pic.twitter.com/MYoWKyqlmF

As you all know, Chadwick, unfortunately, passed away last year in August after secretly battling colon cancer.
