Change.org Petition Created Calling For Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ And Other Streaming Services To Stop Charging For 60 Days

#Roommates, since the country is on continued lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus, many people are taking advantage of streaming services now more than ever to keep them entertained. Well, according to a new online petition, thousands believe that popular streaming services should cease charging for 60 days to help ease the financial burden customers may be facing.

@EntertainmentWeekly reports, a new Change.org petition was recently created to urge popular streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime to give all customers 60 days of free service. Apparently, many agree, as the petition currently has over 38,000 signatures. The petition also details that due to the nationwide shelter-in-place orders, streaming services should be more than willing to drop their fees for the next two months to keep Americans entertained and occupied.

The petition, created by Philip Kolas, reads:

“During a worldwide viral pandemic, social distancing and personal quarantine is vitally important to stem the risk of spreading disease. As a result, right now millions of people worldwide are keeping themselves at home in order to prevent community spread of the COVID-19 virus. While this is a heroic and necessary challenge, it also runs the risk of boredom and isolation, which can lead to depression, among other factors. Many people are turning to their streaming services to alleviate their monotony. The problem with this is that many people cannot afford these membership fees, especially in a time like now when many people’s economic livelihood is already strained.”

Kolas continued, adding this:

“Therefore, this petition asks that all worldwide streaming services intact a temporary 60 day stoppage of membership charges, as well as per-movie rental fees. If people can watch as much as they want, whenever they want, this will help alleviate the stress of home isolation, as well as encourage people to stay home. This is a responsible community health strategy… I call upon every one of these companies that can help make an involuntary homestay more comfortable and therefore more successful to do their part to lift our sorrows and stresses of the quarantine.”

While some entertainment companies have already started giving away free services, such as CBS All Access and Showtime each giving away a month of access—it’s unlikely that the top streaming services will answer the call of the petition and offer completely free streaming entertainment.
