It has been a long, trying journey for Colin Kaepernick as he battled the NFL after he and other players made a complaint of collusion, claiming that certain team owners were blackballing them due to their racial injustice protests during the National Anthem at games. Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid’s lawyers announced Friday that they had finally reached a settlement in the lawsuit.
According to reports, terms of the settlement were confidential, but come just weeks before the lawsuit was headed to a full hearing before an arbitrator. The NFL and lawyers for the players, Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas, said: “For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL. As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party.”
As many of you know, Colin became a free agent back in 2016 and has not played since. Eric, former 49ers safety went on to be signed by the Carolina Panthers in September following his filing of a grievance against the NFL.
The players’ protest against an ongoing series of shootings and murders of Black people at the hands of police officers has been the topic of conversation across many platforms and between many races, and classes. Even Donald Trump offered his input, asserting that team owners should fire those “sons of b-tches,” as he feels that their protest against the genocide of our people is disrespectful to the American flag and to the members of the United States military.
With the terms of the settlement being confidential, we can only hope that it is favorable for Colin Kaepernick, and Eric Reid.
