CVS, Walmart & Rite Aid Officially Removing Johnson & Johnson 22 Ounce Baby Powder From All Stores And Website Following Asbestos Findings

As Johnson & Johnson continues to find itself in the middle of ongoing controversy surrounding its products, the brand has recently been dealt another blow. Popular drugstore chains CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid have just announced that they will no longer sell any of the company’s 22. oz baby powder.

Following news earlier this month that 33,000 bottles of its baby powder had been recalled due to asbestos findings, Johnson & Johnson has also just lost some of its biggest distributors—as popular drugstores are pulling all 22. Oz baby powder from its stores and website. As reported by @CBSNews, the move is said to be a precautionary measure by CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid to ensure the health and safety of its customers.

This is the latest setback for Johnson & Johnson, as the company is knee-deep in lawsuits, most recently being ordered to pay eight billion to a man who claimed the company’s products caused him to grow breasts. Additionally, for the last few years there have been thousands of lawsuits claiming that the brand’s talc-based powder contains cancer-causing minerals.

Despite recalling the 22. oz baby powder, which the company referred to as precautionary, the brand still maintains that there is no asbestos in any of its products, stating:

“Johnson & Johnson has a rigorous testing standard in place to ensure its cosmetic talc is safe and years of testing, including the FDA’s own testing on prior occasions — and as recently as last month — found no asbestos.”

The statement continued to add:

“Thousands of tests over the past 40 years repeatedly confirm that our consumer talc products do not contain asbestos. Our talc comes from ore sources confirmed to meet our stringent specifications that exceed industry standards.”

Currently, there is no word on if other retailers also plan to stop selling the  baby powder.
