<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While the stars gear up for the much-anticipated 72 Emmy Awards tonight, some of the early winners of the night have already gotten the chance to celebrate. In his Emmy acceptance speech late Saturday night, Dave Chappelle let critics have it!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dave Chappelle’s Netflix stand-up special “Sticks &; Stones” garnered him three Emmy awards for best directing and writing of a variety special in addition to best variety special at the pre-recorded Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hollywood-flashback-carl-reiner-first-struck-emmy-gold-in-1957">The Hollywood Reporter</a> reports.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dave Chappelle addressed the critics after his Emmy win, pointing out how the reviews that his stand up received were less than stellar.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Boy, comes as a complete surprise,” Dave said as the audience roared with laughter. “I mean I read all the reviews and they said so many terrible things. They were ‘embarrassed for me,’ I had lost my way, ‘wasn’t even worth watching.”</span></p>

<p>Dave also took the time to thank the people he was up against. With his stand-up, he beat out fellow nominees Tiffany Haddish, John Mulaney, Jerry Seinfeld, and Hannah Gadsby in the variety special (pre-recorded) category.</p>
<p>Dave also mentioned his fellow comedians he beat out in the writing category.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d like to shout out all the other nominees tonight,&#8221; Dave said. &#8220;Tiffany Haddish, Patton Oswalt, Hannah Gadsby, my brother (John) Mulaney). You guys are an inspiration to me and I am honored to be nominated with you. I am sorry you didn&#8217;t win tonight but who gives a f**k anyway. It&#8217;s a special night because comedy gets to be itself. It&#8217;s all we ever wanted. I hope the war&#8217;s over.&#8221;</p>
