DeRay McKesson Is Suing Baton Rouge Police Department Following His Arrest

It was just last month when the senseless killing of Alton Sterling was caught on video. His murder triggered numerous amounts of protests throughout the world, and of course in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

If you all can remember, well-known Black Lives Matter activist, DeRay McKesson was among the many who were arrested during the protests in Baton Rouge.

His arrest was captured live on Periscope, and it started to trend on social media with the hashtag #FreeDeRay. Now he is looking to sue the city of Baton Rouge along with two other protesters.

According to Vibe, McKesson along with Kira Marrero and Gloria La Riva say that police were aggressive with them during their peaceful protest. Officers were also wearing riot gear and were driving tanks and carrying machine guns.

McKesson stated in the lawsuit that officers pointed their weapons towards them during their peaceful protest.

The lawsuit is pursuing damages for lawyer and administration fees, as well as for their arrest records to be expunged.
