Dr. Dre Announces A New Album & Explains Why Detox Was A Chop!

Dr. Dre just announced that he will be releasing a new album called “Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre” next Friday and yes, this is really happening! This is the first music we’ve been blessed with from the mogul since his album 2001 which gave us “Still D.R.E.” (1999), “Forgot About Dre” and “The Next Episode (2000)”, so that means it’s been over 15 years since Dre has released anything new!

During a Beats1 radio show for Apple Music, Dre explained how he was inspired by the Straight Outta Compton movie to create! “I decided during principal photography [for the Straight Outta Compton movie] that I was leaving the set, coming to the studio, and I felt myself just so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album/ I started recording a soundtrack. I kept it under wraps, and now the album is finished. It’s an inspired-by album, it’s inspired by Straight Outta Compton. I’m really proud of this, I’m excited about it.”

If you know anything about Dre and his music, then you know he only comes with that fire, so after he told Apple Music listeners why he decided to 86 his highly anticipated “Detox” album, his decision made a lot of sense. “This is something you’re not gonna hear many artists say. The reason why ‘Detox’ didn’t come out is because I didn’t like it. It wasn’t good. The record, it just wasn’t good. I’ma keep it all the way 1000 with you. Seriously, I worked my ass off. I don’t think I did a good enough job, and I couldn’t do that to my fans, and I couldn’t do that to myself, to be perfectly honest with you. I just wasn’t feeling it. I’m ready this time [though], it’s really coming out. I’m so excited about it. I think everybody’s gonna really get into these records, man.”

It takes a lot for a 6-time-Grammy-winning-CEO-of-one-of-the-coldest-labels-ever-and-head-of-the-most-gully-rap-group-to-have-ever-done-it to say that he wasn’t feeling his own music, but, that’s an artist for you! However, I am so excited that he’s over-ecstatic about the release of his new album! It’s got an impressive track-list with features for days like Snoop Dogg and Marsha Ambrosius, BJ The Chicago Kid and of course Eminem.
