<p>Roommates, you&#8217;ll never believe what Dylan Roof&#8217;s lawyers are trying to do. As a brief refresher, Dylan Roof is the mass shooter who ended 9 people&#8217;s lives, most of whom were African Americans, in a South Carolina church. Mhhm, that guy.</p>
<p>Roof&#8217;s lawyers are challenging the constitutionality of the federal death penalty law, by arguing that the penalty is unconstitutional.</p>
<p>The penalty is being challenged by Roof&#8217;s lawyers because the federal government is seeking the death penalty after rejecting Roof&#8217;s offer to plead guilty and accept multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole.</p>
<p>According to <a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/dylann-roof-challenges-constitutionality-of-the-federal-deat?utm_term=.ojXzqDJw5#.uo4LMKXaV">Buzzfeed</a>, Roof&#8217;s lawyers write, &#8220;The Federal Death Penalty Act may have been designed with as much care as possible under the circumstances, the capital sentencing process that the statute provides is constitutionally inadequate a practice.&#8221; They continued on to write, The results of jurors good-faith grappling with the law &#8211; arbitrary, biased, and erroneous death verdicts &#8211; are intolerable as a matter of due process and proportional punishment.&#8221;</p>
