Grimes didn’t intend to reveal their newest bundle of joy. The writer of the ‘Vanity Fair’ piece, Devin Gordon, happened to be interviewing Grimes in her home when Y began to cry. When Devin asked, “Do you have another baby in your life, Grimes,” she reportedly clenched and looked away. But after a conversation about the ethics of sharing the news and more infant screams from Y, the mama loosened up on the topic.
She spoke on her pregnancy with X and the serious complications she faced. She experienced pressure on her nerves that made it difficult to walk at eight months pregnant. The condition caused her to repeatedly collapse and use crawling to move around. At one point, Grimes also hemorrhaged.
Later, Grimes revealed her daughter’s name to Devin via text. Apparently, Exa is a reference to a supercomputing term. Dark represents “the unknown,” given that the singer believes dark matter is “the beautiful mystery of our universe.” Siderl, pronounced sigh-deer-ee-el, represents deep space time versus our Earth time and Grimes’ love for ‘Lord of the Rings’ character Galadriel.
And while the name might feel exotic to some, it was a compromise for Grimes. Apparently, the mama of two worries that “it’s a little boring.” Instead, she was first hoping to fulfill her dream of naming a daughter Odysseus.
The news came as a surprise given that last fall Elon seemingly confirmed break-up rumors. He told ‘Time’ they were probably semi-separated. But in the recently released interview, Grimes revealed theres no real word for their current arrangement.
Theres no real word for it, she said. I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but were very fluid. We live in separate houses. Were best friends. We see each other all the time. We just have our own thing going on, and I dont expect other people to understand it.
And if youre wondering, Grimes says theyre happy. She explained that This is the best its ever been…. We just need to be free. Grimes also said they plan to have at least 3 or 4 more kids in the future.
