Emotions were running high yesterday on Steve Harvey’s talk show as he welcomed the family of Bernie Mac to remember him on a special day.
The remaining members of Kings of Comedy, Cedric The Entertainer and D.L. Hughley, joined Steve on stage to help reveal two special surprises.
The first surprise included Mike Epps making a visit to Bernie Mac’s old high school in the Southside of Chicago and joining the show via satellite to reveal that the school’s auditorium would be renamed in Bernie Mac’s honor.
Bernie Mac’s wife, Rhonda McCullough said, “I’m so honored, and I’m always amazed at just the outpouring of love people still have for him, and it just warms my heart that they remember him and love him the way they do.”
As the tears began to flow, the next surprise included the city of Chicago recognizing November 14th as Bernie Mac Day. An emotional Steve Harvey said, “I urge all Chicagoans to mark this occasion just as Bernie would have, with thanksgiving for both our trials and triumphs, and finding the humor no matter what.”
Many years after his death, and Bernie Mac is still remembered and his talent is deeply missed.
