A fifth grade teacher from Alabama is under fire for dressing up as Kanye West in full black face! Yes, a teacher doesn’t know that black face is a no no.
According to NY Daily News, Heath Morrow and his wife who appeared to have butt pads in the photo, meant “no harm” when they dressed up as Kanye and Kim and posted a picture to the internet. The picture went up on Facebook and in no time the couple was read to filth by commenters and reposts!
It’s upsetting and almost just plain crazy that black people still have to remind the world where blackface comes from and why it is not okay to do in 2015, but here we are doing it time and time again.
What makes this situation so bad is that it’s coming from a teacher. No matter what subject he teaches he should know right from wrong especially when dealing with race and being offensive to cultures of students.
Of course the couple played the “we have black friends” card when asked about their mindset behind thinking these costumes were okay but no one is buying it. The wife reportedly wrote that she thought Halloween was the one time that things like this were okay.
We hope this will be one of the last times that blackface will be brought up because no matter how subtle or inoffensive it’s meant to be, the internet catches everything and no one is safe. Shouldn’t a teacher know not to do something like this? Let us know what you think, roommates!
