Fisher-Price Issues A Warning About Their Rock ‘n Play Sleeper After The Passing Of 10 Infants

The Consumer Products Safety Commission is urging customers to stop using the Fisher Price Rock ‘n Play sleeper if their babies are able to roll over.
The commission and Fisher-Price have reportedly issued a warning about the sleeper, citing reports of the deaths of 10 infants since 2015. According to @CNN, the infants rolled over onto their stomach while not restrained in the sleeper. Although the warning did not specify the infants’ deaths, people are reporting the infants may have suffocated.
A spokeswoman for the commission told CNN that latest death was reported just one month ago, and the commission is currently investigating the product. “If it turns out that it needs to be recalled, we will move forward with that,” Davis said.
The commission is recommending the pubic stop using the sleeper if their children are 3 months old or “as soon as an infant exhibits rollover capabilities.” This is not the first time Fisher-Price has issued a warning about this product, though. The company has previously warned users to stop using the product when infants could possibly roll out of the sleeper and fall.
“The reported deaths show that some consumers are still using the product when infants are capable of rolling and without using the three point harness restraint,” the warning said.
The company is unsure if the deaths are caused by issues with the product itself or with people using the product incorrectly. According to the report, almost all of the fatalities reported that the infant was not properly strapped into the sleeper.
General manager at Fisher-Price, Chuck Scothon, issued a statement about the warning and clarified that the sleeper meets all safety standards.
“A child fatality is an unimaginable tragedy,” he said. “Fisher-Price and every one of our employees take the responsibility of being part of your family seriously, and we are committed to earning that trust every day.”
