<p>A Florida woman is getting $1.75 million after a <em><a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/florida-woman-reaches-1-75-million-settlement-with-tampa-nail-salon-after-an-infection-from-a-pedicure-led-to-her-getting-her-leg-amputated/">settlement</a></em> was reached with the nail salon that was responsible for giving her a pedicure that led to an infection, which later led to her getting her leg amputated.</p>
<p>According to the <em><a href="https://www.tampabay.com/news/business/2021/12/28/tampa-woman-reaches-175-million-settlement-for-losing-leg-after-pedicure/">Tampa Bay Times</a></em>, a lawsuit states the initial incident took place back in September 2018 when an employee at Tammy’s Nails 2 in Tampa cut Clara Shellman’s foot during a pedicure. The cut led to an infection mainly because Shellman, 55, had a severe peripheral arterial disease, which reduced the blood flow to her limbs. As a result, she had to get her leg amputated.</p>
<p>Three years later, and a settlement has finally been reached. Documents filed on December 16th showed that a settlement was reached, however it didn&#8217;t list an amount. Shellman&#8217;s attorney Paul Fulmer later revealed the settlement was for $1.75 million. He said, &#8220;She was stunned, shocked, crying, and giddy, all at the same time.&#8221;</p>
<p>He continued to explain that after the amputation, Shellman experienced tough times, including losing her home. Not being able to walk she became dependant on others, and she now lives with relatives.</p>
<p>She filed a lawsuit against the salon in May 2020 as she claimed one of the salon employees used dirty tools and equipment that put customers at risk. In the lawsuit, it also claimed the salon failed to properly train its workers and maintain equipment.</p>
<p>The salon clapped back and said that Shellman was at fault because she didn’t seek medical care or “take reasonable efforts to prevent the development of infection,&#8221; right away. They also denied her claims of their tools being dirty as well.</p>
<p>Fulmer said that Shellman deserved the settlement, but they were surprised the salon agreed to the $1.75 million considering she already had the severe peripheral arterial disease.</p>
