#Roommates, as many are still filled with shock and outrage following the senseless death of Ahmaud Arbery, there have now been some interesting developments. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is officially looking into the case and local protestors flooded the Georgia Capitol to demand justice for Arbery.
@WSBTV reports, following the Georgia District Attorney’s suggestion that the Ahmaud Arbery, 25, case head to the grand jury, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has also come on board to look further into the tragic incident. The GBI announced earlier this week that the decision to assist with the case came by request. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said he expects swift justice regarding the murder and Governor Brian Kemp echoed his statements.
Meanwhile, dozens of protestors stood outside the Georgia Capitol demanding justice for Arbery and the arrest of the suspects, 56-year-old Gregory McMichael, a former Glynn County police officer and an investigator for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District DA’s office and his son, Travis McMichael, 25.
“Based on the video footage and news reports that I have seen, I am deeply concerned with the events surrounding the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery,” Carr said. “I expect justice to be carried out as swiftly as possible, and I stand ready to support GBI Director Reynolds, DA Durden and the local community.”
Ahmaud Arbery was killed after being shot by a man in the Satilla Shores neighborhood near Brunswick, Georgia, according to a Glynn County police report. The man who shot him, Travis McMichael and his father, Gregory, both white, said they thought Arbery was a suspect connected to recent burglaries and they were trying to make a citizen’s arrest when the shooting happened.
